Sometimes I Think about Dying

Daisy Ridley is exceptional as an alienated office worker in this charming but understated comedy drama from director Rachel Lambert. Fran (Ridley) spends much of her life avoiding interaction with her colleagues and daydreaming about the often outlandish ways in which she might meet her end. When amiable new co-worker Robert (Dave Merheje) makes an effort to get to know her, Fran hesitantly learns to embrace a more sociable way of life. This is an extremely low-key film with a quirky, melancholic sense of humour that will appeal to some viewers more than others. The purposefully glacial pace at which events unfold -mirroring the tedium of office life - can be to the film's detriment. However, Ridley's terrific, offbeat performance anchors the film and ensures that it is an effective and very relatable look at introversion and depression.
