Like the other Team Go Rocket Leaders, you will need to take out some grunts to assemble the Rocket Radar if you want to track him down - and when you do, he will be ready to unleash some tough Pokémon to stop you from winning.

The best counters against Cliff in June 2024, thankfully, look to be the same as they were in May, as he appears to have an unchanged line-up this month.

Regardless, we're here to help you with the best counters and type match-ups so you emerge from the battle victorious.

Here's how to defeat Cliff in Pokémon Go as of June 2024, and the best counters against the Team Rocket Leader.

Best Cliff counters for Pokémon Go in June 2024

One of the things that makes Cliff tricky is the fact that there are six potential Pokémon he could throw at you.

The battle will last for three rounds, and the only one you can guarantee is the first one - he'll always start off with Machop, but the other two rounds have multiple options each.

You need to prepared for each of the Pokémon that Cliff could send out in the second or third round of your battle, making sure you've got a decent counter in your back pocket for each of them. At a glance, then, this is what you need to know.

First round:

  • Shadow Machop (a Fighting-type Pokémon, weak against Flying, Fairy and Psychic-type moves)

Second round:

  • Shadow Kingdra (a Water and Dragon-type Pokémon, Dragon and Fairy-type moves)
  • Shadow Aerodactyl (a Rock and Flying-type Pokémon, weak against Electric, Ice, Rock, Steel and Water-type moves)
  • Shadow Gallade (a Psychic and Fighting-type Pokémon, weak against Fairy, Flying and Ghost-type moves)

Third round:

  • Shadow Tyranitar (a Rock and Dark-type Pokémon, weak against Fighting, Fairy, Ground, Bug, Steel, Water and Grass moves)
  • Shadow Cradily (a Rock and Grass-type Pokémon, weak against Bug, Fighting, Ice and Steel moves)
  • Shadow Crobat (a Poison and Flying-type Pokémon, weak against Electric, Ice, Psychic and Rock moves)

A strong Fairy-type Pokémon will do well against many of the Pokémon Cliff can use. As would a Flying-type and Psychic-type.

It's also worth noting that you can re-pick your team after losing to Cliff once, by opting for a rematch at the same location, which should mean that Cliff makes the same picks again - but you'll know who you're up against, so you can make your own picks more wisely. And if you want more tips, keep reading!

Best Machop counters in Pokémon Go

You have some choices here as Machop can be taken down with Flying, Fairy and Psychic-type moves.

Strong Psychic-type Pokémon will do well against Machop. You can't go wrong with Mewtwo or Alakazam. Another good pick would be Gardevoir or Granbull with a strong Fairy-type attack, as that will prove useful against Gallade, Kingler and Tyranitar, too.

Best Kingdra counters in Pokémon Go

Kingdra will be taken down by Dragon and Fairy-type attacks.

As Dragon is super-effective against Dragon, you're best off using a powerful Fairy-type Pokémon against Kingdra. We'd recommend Gardevoir or Granbull. A Togekiss with Air Slash and Dazzling Gleam will be useful in the fight against Cliff overall, too.

Best Aerodactyl counters in Pokémon Go

To take down Aerodactyl, you will want to have a Pokémon ready that uses Electric, Ice, Rock, Steel and Water-type moves.

Kyogre would be an excellent choice if you have one. Blastoise would be great, too. We can recommend Raikou or Electivire, as well.

Best Gallade counters in Pokémon Go

Fairy, Flying and Ghost-type moves are all ones that Gallade is not a fan of, as they can do some serious damage - so pick one of those!

Togekiss, Rayquaza, Gengar and Chandelure will all prove to be great picks.

Best Tyranitar counters in Pokémon Go

With Tyranitar being weak against Fighting, Fairy, Ground, Bug, Steel, Water and Grass-type attacks, again you should have plenty to choose from here.

The OG Water-type king, Blastoise, should also do the trick against Tyranitar. Or, of course, any powerful Water-type that you've got prepared.

Best Cradily counters in Pokémon Go

Cradily can be battled best by using Bug, Fighting, Ice and Steel attacks, which means you have several choices to pick from as to who you bring into battle.

Any of the following should see you emerge from this battle in one piece: Metagross, Heracross, Machamp or Terrakion.

Best Crobat counters in Pokémon Go

Crobat is vulnerable to Electric, Ice, Psychic and Rock moves, which means you have a wide range of Pokémon you can choose from.

You can't go far wrong with Mewtwo (can you ever?), and Rhyperior is a great choice, too. Raikou and Magnezone are good picks, as well.
