Hold onto your horses, JRR Tolkien fans. The Gollum release date has now been delayed, with the upcoming Lord of the Rings game shifting further into the future than originally planned.
Of course, Middle-earth has rich history in gaming, from the impressive LEGO Lord of the Rings game to the action-packed Shadow of Mordor titles, but this particular experience does sound unique.

So, when exactly is the Gollum release date, and what else do you need to know about the new LotR game? We'll run through all the key information for you now.

Is The Lord of the Rings: Gollum based on the movies?
No, the Gollum game is not based on the Lord of the Rings films. The game will be based solely on JRR Tolkein's books and not Peter Jackson's films, so fans can expect a rather different Gollum to Andy Serkis' iconic take on the character.
Developer Daedalic Entertainment has hinted that Gollum may be bigger than he is in the movies, and that the Nazgûl will appear in the game with its own redesigned look.
What's The Lord of the Rings: Gollum about?
The game has been described as an action-adventure, though is expected to be less violent than other Lord of the Rings games such as Shadow of Mordor.
Gamers will join Gollum's story shortly after he loses the One Ring to Bilbo Baggins, before joining the former Stoor Hobbit in a stealthy adventure across Middle-earth.
The character's dual nature is said to become a gameplay element - players will have to choose whether to side with Sméagol or Gollum at various points throughout the game.
