Adapted from the 16th century work Journey to the West, attributed to the poet Wu Cheng'en, Black Myth: Wukong places players in the shoes of The Destined One - a monkey based on the character called "Sun Wukong", who knows how to dish out some serious hurt.

All the bombastic action depicted in the trailers is set against the backdrop of the incredibly varied and detailed world of a fantastical Ming dynasty China.

For fans who want their mythological epic fix sooner, the God of War Ragnarök Valhalla DLC has recently released.

When is the Black Myth: Wukong release date?

Black Myth: Wukong will release 20th August 2024.

Quite a while away then, but there are plenty of upcoming games in 2023 and beyond to tide us over until then. Not to mention the oodles of games that have already come out in 2023.

The release window for summer 2024 remains very open, so it's unclear at the time of writing what games Black Myth: Wukog will be competing with.

Given the hype behind the game, however, we don't envy any titles that will be landing around the same time.

No, you cannot currently pre-order Black Myth: Wukong.

While there aren't any pre-order deals at the moment, Black Myth: Wukong does have a Steam page. You can add the game to your wishlist now!

Black Myth: Wukong will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

It looks like a huge game that previous generations and the Switch might struggle with, owing to the cutting-edge tech featured in Unreal Engine 5 such as Nanite, Lumen and virtual shadow maps.

Depending on the power under its hood, it could see a release on the next-gen Switch 2, but the jury is out around just how much horsepower it will have.

It may also prove a bridge too far for the Steam Deck, but you can always stream it from your main computer to play it untethered from your gaming computer.

As for the gameplay, it looks to adopt Souls-like mechanics - expect to hack, slash, parry, die, repeat. The bosses in the end of the trailer look particularly challenging. Speaking of which...
